Langers L'Existentialisme Sartrien Devant La Critique Indienne (Book of French) by Romey Borges
Romey Borges, Professor (Retd.) of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, examines here the existentialism of Sartre as seen by the Indian critics. He presents here a comparative study of the existentialism of Sartre and the Indian intellectuals. This book equally studies the influence of Sartre on some Indian literatures.
The book is a response to a question raised by Prof. Borges in the Preface of the book: "Did India know Sartre and his thoughts?". It is first and the only doctoral thesis to be written by an Indian academician on the subject of Jean-Paul Sartre's intellectual relation with Indian critics. In the first part, Prof. Borges showcases the evolution of the notion of existentialism across the centuries, attempts to understand Sartre's philosophy, presents a general critic of Sartre's existentialism and hereafter that of the Indian critics in particular. The second part of the book examines Indian critics' viewpoint on Sartre's works and the influence of Sartre on Indian literatures.
Divided into two parts (four and two chapters respectively), the book includes a detailed biography of Jean-Paul Sartre, a list of works of Sartre translated in Indian languages, a bibliography of the books and the articles of Sartre and an alphabetic index of the themes and names referred in the book.
